Kéré Architecture — Building With Community

Berlin—based Kéré Architecture has designed a wonderful installation and exhibit at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, which sheds light on Diébédo Francis Kéré’s inventive approach to building through the use of thousands of strands of lightweight string. The string was locally fabricated, optimistically harkening back to Philadelphia’s long history as a textiles hub.

The exhibition, on view until September 25th, invites visitors to consider how architecture benefits and interacts with communities.

Kéré is best known for creating low-cost, modern buildings in West Africa that are constructed using local materials and labor.
